The Transylvanian brown bear is one of Europe’s most valuable wildlife populations and an essential part of the region’s natural heritage. Protecting this remarkable species requires more than awareness—it demands scientific research, continuous monitoring, and long-term conservation efforts. GREEN LIFE Association launched this project to better understand the behaviour, habitat, and ecological needs of the brown bear population in Transylvania.

Our research combines field observations, habitat mapping, camera trapping, genetic sampling, and the analysis of animal tracks to collect reliable scientific data while minimizing disturbance to wildlife. These methods allow us to monitor population dynamics, movement patterns, habitat use, and interactions between bears and human settlements.
The knowledge gathered through this initiative provides an important foundation for developing sustainable conservation strategies. By identifying the ecological needs of brown bears and understanding the challenges they face, we contribute to biodiversity protection while promoting responsible coexistence between people and wildlife.
Beyond scientific research, the project also raises public awareness about the importance of preserving healthy ecosystems. Protecting the brown bear means protecting forests, habitats, and the rich biodiversity that supports countless other species. Through research, education, and collaboration with local communities, GREEN LIFE Association is committed to ensuring that future generations can continue to share Transylvania with one of Europe’s most iconic wild animals.
